A Dog's a Dog...

The morning is crisp and a beautiful blue sky archs overhead.  I can hear a red-tailed hawk crying but am not able to see her yet.  The dogs bounce from spot to spot.  Milo, the smaller of the two runs in a focused head down way to where Oscar is busy.  Both are boys.  Both black and white with similar markings but very very different in size and physical apperance yet people will stop me to ask if they are syblings.

Last week I spent several days in Florida celebrating Thanksgiving early with my brothers. My siblings and I are not blood related yet, while we look nothing alike no-one doubts we are brothers and sister.   To see us together is to never question that we are related if not by blood, then by experiences.

Having grown up together since our earliest years, what we shared has shaped us so completely that what one actually sees has no bearing on what one might believe about genetics or blood relationships that form a family.   Since we have grown up as siblings, that is what and who we are to one another.

As dismayed as I can become at the divisiveness and angry retoric hurled at each other these days, it is good to be reminded that the crisp air and clear blue of the sky is there for everyone to enjoy.  The lives shared underlines our interactions if we allow it to and as so often said, we have more in common than not.  So yea, Oscar the 40 lb beagle-pitty and Milo the 7 lb jackawowwow are siblings.
